We care about our clients and communities.
We also recognise that people who are most likely to need our help in accessing justice will also be more impacted by the effects of climate change.
It is therefore important that we look at our emissions and find ways to improve our impact on the environment.
Our first climate change strategy will provide guidance on how we will manage our environmental impact.
We will do this by:
- measuring and managing our greenhouse gas emissions
- ensuring current and future environmental issues are considered in our business decisions
- looking for opportunities to advocate for our clients and communities impacted by climate change.

Our goals
As a statutory authority, we are committed to supporting the goal of the Victorian government to reach net-zero by 2045.
To do this we will:
- look at ways to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to certify as a carbon neutral agency by 2026
- consider the environmental impact of our operations
- advocate for disaster preparedness and for our clients in the face of increasing climate related extreme weather events.
Putting the strategy into action
Since 1 July 2023 we have switched to 100 per cent green power. This means that our energy providers are required to source the energy that powers our offices from renewable sources.
We are also:
- measuring and offsetting the emission that result from transportation (air travel and our, majority, hybrid car fleet)
- offsetting those emissions annually through Australian based reforestation and biodiversity projects.
