Lead counsel have significant trial experience, usually at least 10 years' call. They demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and training.
Lead counsel are selected by Victoria Legal Aid in consultation with solicitors, the Victorian Bar and the judiciary.
We continue to invite experienced trial advocates to express interest in joining the program as lead counsel by sending their CV and a brief email to tcdp@vla.vic.gov.au indicating why they would like to be included as lead counsel.

Lead counsel receive brief fees consistent with Table M in the VLA Handbook for lawyers. Lead counsel are also entitled to three-hour conferencing fee to account for time spent in conference and additional discussion with junior counsel throughout the trial.
